BTEC Nationals 1-3: Engineering

BTEC nationals level 3 are awarded as certificates or diplomas equivalent to AS or A-levels, and can be used as entry to university courses, or alternatively, to move more quickly into industry. BTEC level 1 and 2 roughly match to GCSEs and give a basic entry into particular industries. There are higher BTEC levels (4, 5, 6 ) too, for increasingly specialised job roles.

Experience
Back in 2007 I prepared trainee electricians for a level 3 award at a sixth form and further Ed. college. This involved calculations and problem sets to do with circuit physics, solving equations, and calculus.

GCSE Mathematics

GCSE Maths is tiered as 'foundation' or 'higher'. The A* - G grade system has been replaced by a 9 - 1 scale, with 4 marked as a pass for most employment & further ed. There is also the grade of '5' recognised as a 'strong pass'. Foundation exams can achieve a grade 1-5; higher can achieve a grade 3-9.

Experience
I got strong results with GCSE resits as 16 - Adult Further Ed qualifications back in 2005 - 2009, so it has been a while, but I enjoyed the course program and helping people get better set up for their further studies and employment opportunities.

Both the foundation and the higher tier content are absolutely fine and will work through papers or problem sets to help you get the best results.

GCSE Combined Science

Combined science gives a qualification worth 2 GCSEs in place of gaining 3 from separated Biology, Chemistry and Physics GCSEs. The triple subject award is preferred by some universities and courses, but the double should still be acceptable for most needs (such as to progress to A-level) and would cut down the study time if working around a job.

GCSE Computing

Similar to the BTEC nationals technical papers or engineering, GCSE computing could serve as a good foundation course for adult learners to lead onto other paths.

Experience
I haven't coached this paper yet, but have an MSc in computer science

The course would provide a good entry point for adults returning to study and pursuing computing or data-driven subjects or job routes.

*There is no splitting into separate 'higher' and 'foundation' level. It's just Papers 1 & 2 that everyone would sit.
International Baccalaureate Maths

The I.B. qualification is widely taken around the world and is divided up into 6 papers, equivalent to around 3.5-4 A-levels.

Maths comes under 'Group 5' papers, along with computing. Maths Standard Level (SL) is the main route taken, with other papers as harder, optional choices.

Data Analysis for degrees

Whether you are studying for a BA or a PhD, having the support of a private coach or mentor for some of the problem solving or report writing parts can make all the difference. I used to enjoy helping others with their projects this way.
Experience
I have helped BSc and PhD students through data heavy aspects of coursework (not currently doing this).

I have a good academic background particularly in statistical, biological and computing topics.
