Student tuition

 Multimedia Design.
I have worked with postgraduate students, teaching methods to produce professional figures for dissertations. This can be through use of Excel, and through figure-preparation software such as Inkscape. I can also proofread your thesis and check all the mathematics. I'm happy to check your Excel spreadsheets are correct, too.
Multimedia Design.
From crib shits to publication ready materials, I enjoy preparation of multimedia resources.
High Quality Images

A type of high quality image is a Vector Graphics Image. The program Inkscape can be used to make these. The resolution of which doesn't change when the size is increased or decreased. The images can therefore be expanded for posters, or shrunk to become icons. The clarity of the figures is also high in publication documents or when printed out.
Example: Sample of scientific and technical figures prepared for publication. Images were created with Inkscape and R- graphical / statistical packages, aswell as Cytoscape, some Powerpoint, and finally with some inhouse Java code writing to output customized figures.

 Text Documents

Most documents used in offices are 'rich text' formats featuring many formatting and layout options, embedding of graphics including charts, and even videos. Additional functionality such as referencing may be handled by external programs as add-ons to a software package. Document Editors with a greatly simplified file format are used for data files or computer code.
Example: Word document with embedded equations.
Spreadsheets

Spreadsheets are usually used for all the statistical and charting work in a university project. I can teach how to get the most out of your spreadsheets, creating more complex formulae, and better charts. The presentation of the charts makes a big difference to your project! Don't settle for the default options. Spreadsheets can also be used to run programs.

Example: Spreadsheet template for drawing a Fractal.

This fractal is generated using the formula =IF(SUM(A1:C1) = 1, 1, "") placed in cell B2 which is then dragged across the cell range, with starting vaue of '1' in cell Z1 from which the rest of the triangle is then generated. Conditional formatting picks out the colour purple at every cell evaluating to 1.
Example: Spreadsheet template for Mandelbrot set (including visual basic Macro).

This is a nice example from the ExcelEngineers website, a website showing how Excel solves many types of Engineering problem.
Presentations

The presentation format consists of 'slides' viewed one after another usually with not too many lines of text on and often pictures or other media embedded. They are mostly used for presenting ideas or results in a business meeting, a sales presentation, a class or a lecture, or as an alternative to making a booklet format for handing out some information.
Example: Powerpoint presentation - introduction to Ohm's Law with spreadsheet.
 Scripting (Java, R etc)

Scripting means being able to move beyond the custom formulas available in Excel, to create ones own computing routines and applications, specifying every step with a line of computer code.

This can be a particularly good skill to learn the basics of, if you have large data tables as a part of your project. You don't need to study an entire programming course to be able to get started analysing your data. I can teach you the basics that you need in a few lessons.
Example: Working Java programs for tutorials running together with realistic data tables.
